It just occurred to me, after reading
this article on Homeland Security's intentions to crack down on illegal immigrant hiring, that the government has been pocketing taxes and social security payments from people with invalid social security numbers for how many years? How is it that the people in the Social Security office don't verify which numbers are valid and which are not? It would be a simple matter to do so once every six months or so. Doesn't that make them guilty of something?

Of course, I don't really need anyone to answer those rhetorical questions. Even if they would be found guilty by a jury, they are accountable to no one.
