France: You think this could never happen here?
Today’s France is a perfect example of the apex where economics intersects with politics. As you may have noticed, that country is a mess today, even worse than our George Floyd moments.

According to my own analysis, part of the reason is due to France’s almost 50 years of socialist politics, which also includes socialist economics. As with every attempt to create an “equal” society, French politicians have promised so much more to their electorate than they can finance that they’ve run out of goodies to spread around.
I think the hooligans in all the cities of France will continue this free-for-all until the government gets some b–ls and pulls out the bazookas. The President should at least declare a State of Emergency, or even a curfew. But unfortunately current officials are caught between their endless speeches about peace and empathy on the one hand, and on the other, the actions of lax judges who have let all offenders go for the past 20 years with suspended sentences. (The judges believe the offenders need “education,” and not “repression.” – No joke.)
If the current cowardly leaders of France were to act as they should, they would immediately be labeled promoters of police violence and racism. And so they are caught in the very nets they themselves have cast.
I have found the secret to understanding Leftists. It’s the same everywhere in the world: They live in their own movie-time version of reality. I have a Leftist friend who spelled it out in 2024, writing this to me:
“I really, really do not want to lose track of my deep feelings of compassion and responsibility for folks who have a relatively difficult time in our society…. Once a person even dips a toe into inquiry of this nature [about what causes homelessness and similar topics], one is at risk for being called all sorts of awful names by one’s fellow lefties. I insist on keeping my leftie credentials in place while I explore this line of thought. I don’t think I’m alone….I am a living example of how perfectly intelligent people can know so little. I have a lot of empathy for regular folks … who have no appetite at all for the complexities of how to govern a country. It’s exhausting. Much easier to agree with some huge principle (‘freedom!’ ‘human rights!’, etc) wave a sign, or raise a pitchfork, depending on one’s temperament.” [emphasis mine]
These are the actual words (s)he wrote except for the phrase in [brackets], which only repeats words written in an earlier paragraph.
Can you believe the naivety? The gullibility? The lack of courage, or even curiosity? And what about conscience? For me, it explains EVERYTHING. Or at least everything in the minds of the more innocent Lefties. (The activists are another story.) On top of that, this person graduated from Harvard, probably near, or at, the top of the class. (I hear you thinking, "Well yeah, Harvard. Of course." And you're right.)
But if the Lefties ever win this fight, in France or even in the US, they will themselves be eaten by the tyrants they don’t perceive as such in their own midst. Just take a look at Michigan, New York, and now Texas. The Communists and Terrorists will turn on our naive Leftists and eat them first. In fact, they’ve already started the feast. (I’ve never witnessed more spineless campaigning, and heaven knows we’ve seen some of that before.)
People on the right are too civil, in fact. We live in another kind of movie-time universe where, in the end, everyone is reasonable, everyone deserves respect, an honest debate. But the activist Leftists don’t give any credence to reason or respect. (Apparently even the more innocent ones don't either.) They only know victory, no matter what the means. “It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there!” Indeed it is.
You may think, or hope, that all this hullabaloo in France will pass, and will have woken up certain sectors of our own population here at home. But it’s not enough.
Be wary, readers. Start acting instead of just watching and hoping.
